FAQs
Who can join?
We welcome surfers and boardriders of all ability with a home base in the North East. We’re not yet set up to welcome groms so you must be over 18.
Where does my membership fee go?
Your membership fee helps us run the club, including paying affiliation fees, funding infrastructure such as this beautiful website, contributing to club socials and other events, and helping us buy equipment and eventually the dream of our own TNSC clubhouse.
How involved do I need to be?
We encourage members to get as involved as much, or as little, as they like with the running the club. There’s no pressure to do more than turn up and share the stoke. Take what you need and contribute where you can. We highly recommend buying a club tee to wear with pride. Members can set their own events direct for the website, qualified members are welcome to run Surf coaching workshops, yoga, skate, PT sessions with prior consent of the club for insurance purposes.
When does my membership run out?
TNSC memberships run for 12 months from the date you signed up. At this point you’ll need to renew, but don’t worry we’ll let you know when it’s coming up.
I don’t have a UK PayPal/I hate PayPal, can I pay another way?
Yes, there’s just an extra few steps. You can pay via card by checking out as a guest here then you will need to get in touch with us with your name, phone number, DOB, address, next of kin details and any medical issues we need to know via email: hello(@)truenorthsurf.co.uk so we can set up your account. We will have no way of getting you set up without these details (you can set up the rest of your details yourself in your account at your own pace!). Your membership starts from the date you pay your fee.
Do you offer subsidised concession rates?
Yes. To stay completely inclusive, from 2023 True North Surf Club have been able to introduce concession rates where rates are paid forward from other members or through our fundraising initiatives. If you feel like you’ve been hit hard by the cost of living crisis, or payday is way too far away, or the suggested £30 annual fee is a barrier to you joining, we invite you to pay as you please. Surfing should be accessible for all though our website does not currently offer this automatically – contact us at hello(@)truenorthsurf.co.uk and we’ll sort out your account for you.
Similarly, If you are feeling flush, have had a big bonus or payday, do feel free to pay a little more by donating our purchasing some merch! TNSC is nonprofit and money raised goes back into the club and allows us to subsidise kit, trips and events for all our members as well as local surfers.
Your rates remain confidential between you and the club treasurers.
